What is Centerless Grinding? The big picture view of what we do is we make round objects, rounder. Never thought that round things need to be rounder? We live it everyday. How round is round? We grind to less then one micron straight and round.

What is a micron? Big particles of dust are considered to be between 2.5 and 10 microns in size, where small particles are 2.5 microns and smaller. 2.0 microns are 50 times smaller than a typical human hair.

We do this by using two wheels and a support in between the two wheels. The one wheel is called a grinding wheel, the other a regulating wheel. The support is called a work rest blade. The part that has to be made more dimensionally accurate is processed in between those two wheels and on the support blade.

What does Royal Master Grinders do and what do our machines process? For example, the car you may be sitting in now has many parts processed on our grinding machines. If you have a power drivers seat, look down where the seat bolts to the floor. See that screw? Yes, we produced that on our machine.

Your tilt steering wheel pivots on parts made on our machines. Automatic transmission? About 5 parts inside of it are ground to a tolerance of 1 micron. What does that number mean? All the zeros mean that is grinding process is incredibly accurate. Royal Master machines provide equipment from deodorant balls to rivets for airplane wings.

Beyond cars and airplanes, about 60% of our business is medical devices. If you have a stent in an artery that was inserted using a guidewire most of those guidewires worldwide are made on our equipment. Other medical devices we are involved in include spinal cord stimulation devices, cranial drills, endodontic files, catheters and trocar needles.

Most of our equipment is automated to keep the cost of operation down. We equip our machines with robotics for multiple operations without an operator ever touching the parts.
